Field Listening, INTERNACIONAL DE LA IMAGEN + ARTBO, The Goethe Institute, Bogata, Columbia, October 17-30, 2023
In August of 2022, I took residence in Wursten-Bucholz, an agricultural part of Germany, at a time of a significant drought. I wanted to listen to what was underneath the surface of these fields to actualize this invisible space. I recorded seismic vibrations at varying depths in the soil and played back recorded sessions using subwoofers within these fields. As an audience, we can not only listen but feel the presence of the Earth around us as though we ourselves are submerged.
The work was first performed as part of the Field Kitchen Academy, Wüsten-Buchholz, DE, 2022.
