The TelePrompTer's Lament, 2016

The TelePrompTer's Lament, 2016

The work consists of a teleprompter on wheel stand circa 1970s playing back on double monitor body the lyrics of Simon and Garfunkel's "The Boxer" complete with "la-de-lie" chorus interludes. The song signifies the lonely New Yorker- washed up and beat up, but still existing. The lyrics describe a city at a the time when the teleprompter existed, a gritty 1970s NYC, with a very different Seventh Avenue from the Times Square we see today. The teleprompter exists here, and in its obsolescence, is trapped here. No longer used, no longer necessary or wanted, it sits playing back the lyrics to a song of a life lost in memory. The video is played back as a continual loop.
